ENVIRONMENT

At Birati Globe Vision Society (BGVS), we believe that environmental sustainability is the foundation of a healthy and prosperous society. Climate change, declining natural resources, soil degradation, and water scarcity directly affect the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable communities. Our environmental initiatives focus on restoring ecological balance while creating long-term economic opportunities for rural families. Through community participation, capacity building, and sustainable practices, we are nurturing a greener future where both people and nature thrive together.

Organic Farming Training

BGVS promotes sustainable agriculture by providing scientific and practical training on organic farming to farmers, women, youth, and rural communities. Our objective is to reduce dependence on harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides while improving soil fertility, biodiversity, crop quality, and farmers’ income.

The training covers:

  • Organic compost and vermicompost preparation
  • Natural pest and disease management
  • Soil health improvement techniques
  • Integrated nutrient management
  • Water-efficient cultivation practices
  • Kitchen and nutrition gardens
  • Sustainable agricultural entrepreneurship

By encouraging eco-friendly farming methods, we aim to improve food security, protect the environment, reduce production costs, and promote healthier agricultural practices for future generations.

Tree plantation is one of BGVS’s flagship environmental initiatives for building climate-resilient communities. We organize large-scale plantation drives in schools, villages, community spaces, roadsides, and degraded lands while actively involving students, local residents, volunteers, and community institutions.

Tree Plantation Programme

Our programme focuses on planting fruit-bearing, indigenous, medicinal, and environmentally significant tree species that provide long-term ecological and economic benefits.

The initiative aims to:

  • Increase green cover and restore biodiversity.
  • Reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change.
  • Improve air quality and local environmental health.
  • Prevent soil erosion and conserve water.
  • Support nutrition and livelihoods through fruit-bearing trees.
  • Encourage environmental awareness among children and youth.
  • Build community ownership for long-term care and maintenance of planted trees.

We are sincerely grateful to the Toronto Calcutta Foundation (TCF) for their generous support in providing 3,000 tree saplings. Their valuable partnership has enabled BGVS to significantly expand the reach and impact of this initiative across rural communities.

The distributed saplings not only contribute to increasing green cover and improving biodiversity but also provide farmers with sustainable sources of income through fruit production in the coming years. This initiative beautifully demonstrates how environmental conservation and economic empowerment can work together to build resilient and self-reliant communities.

Together with the support of Toronto Calcutta Foundation (TCF), BGVS remains committed to creating a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for generations to come.

Beyond plantation, BGVS emphasizes survival and growth by motivating communities to protect and nurture every tree, ensuring lasting environmental impact.

Pond Restoration

Water bodies are lifelines for rural communities. BGVS undertakes pond restoration initiatives to revive neglected ponds through cleaning, desiltation, strengthening embankments, and community-led maintenance. These efforts improve groundwater recharge, support agriculture, fisheries, biodiversity, and ensure sustainable water availability while enhancing the overall ecological health of surrounding communities.
